Ealing plans major schools expansion

LB Ealing has identified nine schools for possible expansion to meet the demand for more primary school places.

The Council will publish proposals in early 2009 showing how nine primary schools across the borough could be expanded to create more than 2,500 additional places by 2014. The publication of the proposals will mark the start of a formal consultation period.

Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Ian Gibb, said: “The Council is proposing a huge investment in the borough’s primary schools to ensure the needs of local families are properly met. Ealing has a growing population and our projections show a clear need for additional primary school places, particularly from 2010 and 2011".

The primary schools being considered for expansion are St John’s , Little Ealing, Fielding, Brentside, North Ealing, Oldfield, Selborne, Stanhope and Wood End Infant.  Expansion proposals from Catholic and Church of England schools in areas of growth will also be sought.

A final decision on the expansion of primary school places is expected to be made in April 2009.
